HOME STUDY AREA

The home study area should, if possible, be equipped with an appropriate desk, and supplies that remain at home such as pens, pencils, ruler, eraser and extra 3-hole, lined paper.

ON "NO HOMEWORK" DAYS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY

(do more than one activity from the list if possible)
-practice spelling list or practice math facts
-read a book or read aloud to someone (If reading is one of your child's strengths, you may wish to encourage them to practice in another area, e.g. Math facts, Spelling list words and concepts, write a story or journal, etc.)
-practice their handwriting and/or write a story (If writing is one of your child's strengths, you may wish to encourage them to practice in another area.)
-some other suggestions are; build a model, work on a crossword, jigsaw or word search puzzle, write a letter to a friend or relative, start a non-personal journal, (i.e. one that can be read by others and corrected for grammar and spelling.)

FORGOTTEN OR INCOMPLETE SCHOOL WORK

Here are some solutions to some common school work problems. In your child's student planner are the names of at least five classmates (homework buddies), and their phone numbers. Homework buddies can be used as contacts when the unforeseen happens. Also, my classroom is open at 8:00 am most mornings for those students that wish to complete their work.

Parents will be informed about incomplete or late assignments in the planner and then by letter.

Solutions to some common problems:

TEXTBOOK AT SCHOOL
-phone homework buddy and borrow textbook or have them dictate questions over the phone, or fax or email questions.
-go over to a homework buddy's house and share textbook.
-come to school early enough to do homework before school begins.

WORKSHEET(S) LEFT AT SCHOOL
-phone homework buddy to dictate (or fax/email) questions over the phone.
-go over to a homework buddy's house if he or she has not done the work yet, and use their worksheet to copy from.
-come to school early enough to do homework before school begins.

FORGOT TO COPY DOWN ASSIGNMENT
-phone a homework buddy to find out what was assigned.
-come to school early enough to do homework before school begins.

FORGETTING TO BRING HOMEWORK AND / OR PLANNER TO SCHOOL

Once homework is complete have your child put it and their planner in their school pack, the sleeve of their jacket, in their lunch bag, or by whichever door they leave from IMMEDIATLEY AFTER COMPLETION.

This may help you eliminate those frantic morning searches.

Please remember that school work that is not turned in is considered school work not done. Any body can make one or two mistakes in a term, but more than that, in my opinion, requires a shift in habits and practice.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this notice, or anything else to do with your child's education, please do not hesitate to call me at school.
